Rest in Peace, Steve Jobs. |
I was shocked, and saddened, to hear of the death of Steve Jobs on the 5th. Like many others, Steve was an idol and a man I greatly admired. His legacy of innovation and excellence will influence us for years to come.
One of the things I admired about Steve was that he wasn’t a sellout. He had a vision, and worked ceaselessly to achieve it. We all remember the stories about Steve having circuit boards re-designed so that they would look better, even though almost no one would ever see the inside of the computer. He was the only one who cared how the inside looked, and as a consequence, we have the industrial design icons of the Mac Pro desktops and G5 machines, which are sculpted metal, both inside and out.
Why I do talk about this? Compare Steve Jobs to say, Marc Adamus. It’s like the Bill Gates joke about Bill & God: the difference between the two is that God doesn’t think he’s Bill Gates (no offense to Bill!). It’s the same way with Marc. Marc thinks he’s some sort of visionary and a very brilliant person. Steve actually was that person. Marc spouts off lies about how famous he is, only to switch gears and talk about his humble demeanor to a different audience. Steve Jobs introduced technology and design that spawned thousands of jobs and created entirely new types of markets. Marc spawned a following of vain losers who destroy the market they claim to be a part of.
Think of a Marc-Adamus type Steve Jobs. He wouldn’t really create anything. He’d teach others (workshops) how to “create” MP3 players and computers, and those students would go on to steal the other designs out there, undercutting the originals in hopes of creating a market for stolen technology. Marc would be the motivational speaker, spewing bullshit at a mile a minute while snowing his adoring fans.
I say all this because there’s a difference between the real thing, and a fake, a fraud who wants to bullshit his way to the top. Marc Adamus is the fake. Steve Jobs was the real thing. Rest in peace, Steve; you will be missed.
